This vintage handmade dreamcatcher, measuring 44x23 inches, is a stunning piece of Native American art. The intricate design includes angora fur pelts, both braided and unbraided, leather canvas and strips with acrylic and wooden beads, and a leather web pattern that catches bad dreams. The dreamcatcher was made by a member of the Ojibwe/Chippewa tribe in Michigan, United States and represents their rich cultural heritage. In Oijbwe culture, the buffalo is the first teaching of the 7 sacred laws. It stands on guard to protect and watch over us as we slip into unconscious. There are 12, white angora pelts with two of them being braided, and they are kept in place with large, wooden beads. There are also leather strips that are adorned with multicolored beads. There is a pot metal (biiwaabik) star medallion which represents the spirit world.

Being metal and under the representational "ground / earth" allows it to reflect light against the darkness, where many malevolent beings and thoughts are believed to be present. There are 5 large feathers to help shew away bad dreams. It is exceptionally large at 44" tall and 23" width. I was born in Central Michigan, and I had the great privilege to work the Ojibwe people on their reservation in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, as an intern, for their mental health and substance abuse facility.
