Circa 1880 Blackfoot tobacco bag made of native tanned hide. Total length of bag measures 38 inches, of which 19.5 inches is fringe length. Width of bag is about 6 inches. A seed bead panel on both sides of bag, located above the fringe section, measures 4.75 inches high.
Done in yellow colored background. Both sides done in abstract floral designs of leaf and flower arrangements. Bead embroidery all done in applique and overlay stitch.
Colors used are amber, green, white-lined red, transluscent red, clear, medium and dark blue. Top of bag is scalloped cut and edged in greasy blue and translucent red color. Long hide tie on back side of bag for tying bag shut. The pipe or tobacco bag held the sacred tobacco and pipe bowl of which was the owners medium to speak to the creator.
